Rivers have been extremely helpful to men in all parts of the earth from the very early times. They provide water to slake the thirst of men, to fertilize their lands, provides food and so on.  
The beauty of Sikkim is incomparable and rivers add to the value of the scenic view.  In the last blog we talked about the valleys now let's talk  about some of those beautiful rivers which adds on to the beauty of Sikkim.



1. Teesta River

Teesta river is a tributary of the Brahmaputra, flowing through India and Bangladesh. It is a 315 km long. It originates in the Himalayas near Chunthang, Sikkim and flows to the south through West Bengal before entering Bangladesh. In India, it flows through Darjeeling district and the cities of Rangpo, Jalpaiguri and Mekhliganj.

 

2. Rangeet River

The Rangeet River is a tributary of River Teesta, the largest river at Sikkim. It is 80 km long. It originates in the mountains of Himalayas in West Sikkim and flows past the towns of Jorethang, Pelling and Legship. It is a perennial river and obtains its waters from the melting summer snow of the Himalayas and the rains of monsoon. The river is a hot spot for river rafting, as it has turbulent water.

3. Relli River

 

The Relli River is a small Himalayan river in the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal, flowing near Kalimpong. The source of the Relli lies in between the Alagara - Lava forest range at an elevation of 2,400 metres. The river runs less than 10 kilometres from central Kalimpong, separated by Deolo Hill. The main tributary are Khani River and Pala River . 

4. Jaldhaka River


 The Jaldhaka River, also known as Dichu River in earlier times, is a trans-boundary river with a length of 192 kilometres that originates from the Kupup or Bitang Lake in southeastern Sikkim in the eastern Himalayas and flows through Bhutan and the Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal, India.
